LightSource is pleased to announce the photography exhibition Michael Zagaris: If You Can’t Rock Me. The exhibition presents selections from Michael Zagaris’ rich archive of the most influential rock musicians of the 1970s. Zagaris’ unique perspective allows for an intimate portrait of each iconic persona ranging from The Clash, Grateful Dead, Blondie, The Sex Pistols, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, and Led Zeppelin while providing a glimpse into the raw San Francisco scene of that era.

Inspired by the music and showmanship of the time, Zagaris attended concerts with a camera and tape recorder as a means to encounter musicians and spend time backstage. During one of these meetings, Eric Clapton urged Michael to focus on photography. Since then he has worked steadily for Rolling Stone, Creem, Melody Maker, NME, and Oui. Currently, Zagaris concentrates on professional sports and photojournalism. He is the team photographer for the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco 49ers.
